The Canolfan Beulah’s community centre is a busy place. It is the venue for a whole range of activities, from Weight Watchers to Adult Education, from South Wales Arts Society to Tang So Do martial arts classes to the Rhiwbina Civic Society. We feel Canolfan is a very important part of our serving the needs of Rhiwbina, providing a warm and well equipped place for community activity.
You will see the very beautiful ’Life in Fullness’ panels adorning the staircase. These were the product of our first artist in residency with Jo Jones in 2007. They represent the different stages of life through the symbol of the rainbow and were produced with various members of Beulah and the Rhiwbina community.
Rooms are available for hire and booking
via Mike Mcarthy The Canolfan Memorial Garden The James Horsburgh Memorial Garden is behind Canolfan Beulah and is a peaceful place that is open for all to enjoy.
It is a lovely self contained space in which to sit, eat lunch or play. It also features some artwork, especially the sculpture by a local artist Nia Wyn Jones.
It was redeveloped and officially re-opened on Sunday 1st June 2003. James’ son, Geof, was with us to share the celebrations along with his daughter and her family. The children from junior church entertained us with songs they had learnt and the official opening was marked by the planting of The Rose of Sharon at the foot of the memorial plaque. This was all followed by a barbeque lunch. The garden also includes a tree of life mosaic made with many of our children and the Pioneers Community Arts group. If you come and see it you have to find the pair of eyes watching you, the grinning ladybird and the romantic message. As the garden was the church’s former graveyard it is also a place dedicated to those we have loved but lost through death. People gave to the garden to mark the lives of all sorts of people, from the very old to the very young. Our memorial to these people reminds us of the promise of God in the book of Isaiah, ‘flowers instead of ashes for those who mourn’. We would like to thank all those who have helped to make this garden such a wonderful place.
