GREAT BIG GREEN WEEK

As part of the Great Big Green Week in 2021 we held a Green Fayre in Rhiwbina Village to celebrate how our community, alongside many others across the UK, is taking action to tackle climate change and protect green spaces. Working with Jo Jones, our artist in residence, we invited members of the community to crotchet, knit, sew or paint green leaves to hang in the village. On the pavement by the crossroads, Jo created a ‘living’ Jesus out of periwinkle.

We had food stalls with homemade chutneys and marmalade and local honey for sale, and we were especially pleased Men’s Sheds could join us with their apple press, which was a great success. Siop Sero ran a stall as well as Greenpeace and the Rhiwbina Eco Team.

An important part of the day was to raise awareness of COP 26, the climate summit in Glasgow. Christian Aid Wales staff encouraged people to send messages to world leaders in origami boats to be sent from all over the UK to the summit.

It was a beautiful day, and the village was full of people and colour.
