SUSTAINABLE FASHION FAIR

As the Eco Group in Beulah for some time we had wanted to educate ourselves about sustainable clothing and what we can do as consumers to help fight the climate crisis with what we wear. We wanted to hold an event to highlight some of the fashion industry’s impacts on our planet including carbon emissions, water and chemical usage, deforestation, textile waste, microplastics, over consumption and waste. But we wanted it to be a colourful, positive event with lots of ideas and information on how we can change our behaviour and habits to make a real difference.

In the weeks before our Fashion Fair we held workshops open to everyone in the community to learn how to up-cycle clothes. Our local Tenovus shop donated garments to be up-cycled and then advertised our event by displaying some of them in their shop window in the days leading up to the fair.

On the day we had stalls including haberdashery, textiles, repairers, quilters, spinning and dyeing. We held several workshops and there was a talk from a local Welsh designer and advocate for sustainable fashion. The highlight of the day was a fashion show compered by a Beulah Elder and featuring some of our members and friends. It was a great day which we shared with our Pastorate churches, the Rhiwbina Eco Team and other organisations. We served refreshments and people were able to sit and chat and sew!
